Student's studied Pop Art and the style of Roy Lichtenstein. Students used only primary colors and the benday dot technique to add color to their portraits. Student's also had to choose a word or phrase to incorporate into their artwork.
Hello! Thanks for your patience with getting the blog up and running. I'm excited for you to finally get a glimpse into the wonderful art your students are making here in the 2D Art classroom at DCC! 7th grade spent the first few weeks deciding on a Global Context and writing a Statement of Inquiry for this unit. Once they settled into the familiar rountine of the Art classroom, they began studying the Pop Art Movement and the work of artist Roy Lichtenstein. Students analyzed the work of Lichtenstein and studied the Pop Art moment before planning for the own self portraits. Students then added thick black lines using Sharpie. Using only the primary colors, students practiced filling in solid areas of color and Lichtenstein's Benday Dot method. Students are currently working on two rough drafts before moving to the final drafts next week. Students began to add in the background of their self-portraits. Using a technique called zentangle, students developed different patterns and designs to use as dynamic backgrounds for their portraits. Some students design patters that are very detailed and complex, while others tried larger shapes and patterns. Students are using the zentangle technique to add expression and detail to their self-portraits. It will be exciting to see the finished product! Stay tuned! Students began the process of making self-portraits. Students started by taping pictures of themselves into their Developmental Workbooks. Students were taught how to measure parts of the face to make them proportional to other features. Once students were able to draw their features, they added details to give personality to their drawings. Students then added dark outlines to be able to trace onto final paper. Once students had outlines, they practiced adding value to their self-portraits. |
